Light at the End of the Tunnel? ChopperExchange Sees a 42% Increase in Buyer Inquiries During Covid

St. Petersburg, FL, August 20th, 2020 — Just like most other businesses, ChopperExchange has experienced a healthy dose of panic and uncertainty during the Covid-19 pandemic, which started hitting the U.S. motorcycle industry hard in mid-March, 2020.

As motorcycle dealers started to suspend operations due to state mandates across the country, some also paused their accounts with ChopperExchange. Every day brought new uncertainty. No one knew what was next. Things were not looking good, even for an online motorcycle marketplace with no physical store locations.

Five months later and things are starting to look up, in a big way. For one, the company has seen a 42% increase in buyer inquiries during the April – July period, compared to the same period last year. Buyer inquiries started to pick up in mid April, as people started to make peace with their new normal of being at home and doing outdoor activities.

Bikes listed on ChopperExchange started selling like hotcakes. Typically, the website has around 25,000 American motorcycles listed for sale. Currently, it’s down to 13,000, which is a 48% decrease from this time last year. For private sellers wondering if they should list their bike for sale, the answer is a definite yes.

“This is huge for us and the industry as a whole. It matches what we’re hearing from dealers across the country. People are looking for fun things to do outside. They are buying motorcycles, ATVs, RVs, etc.” says Doug Perry, the company’s Dealer Account Manager.

Of course, we’re not out of the woods yet. Many things have not gone back to pre-Covid normal and not all motorcycle dealers are making it rain. The motorcycle industry as a whole is heading into fall/winter months, which are traditionally its slow season.

To help motorcycle dealers across the U.S. and Canada reach more online shoppers during the fall/winter season, ChopperExchange is launching a special dealer account offering at a discounted price between now and January 31st, 2021. According to the company’s co-president, this is the industry veteran’s “opportunity to help dealers and also gain market share. It’s a smart business decision for all involved.”

What the next several months will bring remains to be seen, but at least the motorcycle industry has started to see a little bit of a light at the end of the tunnel.
